REFLECTION BLOG

      Through out the physical poject for example shadowing my mentor, my goal remained the same through out the project.  My goals each time I saw my mentor was to try to talk to each kindergarden student as if i was talking to one of my friends cause I know if you try to baby talk the students, they will not learn their mistakes and learn that the students are wrong.  Each individual student is very different.  Before i use to think that each child was always cute, but I was very wrong!  There are some students who like to try and get attention on purpose, get introuble alot by being mean or disrespectful toards their classmates.  I also know how each teacher feels towards the end of the day and how hard it is.  I can see why certain teachers can loose their patcients with certain students and how much disrespect a teacher gets in one day.  By being a student myself and kind of being a teacher I saw both perspectives and how hard it is each end.  I also feel like i can speak in front of a class a little better than before.  I also feel like my comunication skill is better.  For example speaking to teachers because I would eat lunch with them in the teachers lounge and also towards the young ones that was inside Mrs. Fellners classroom.  Through out the whole physical portion of the project, I would still like to do this as a career but instead if doing just kindergarden I would like to see if I want to do middle and high school.

 Today on May 14, 2013 i went to see my mentor.  What I did today was help Mrs. Fellner take down some of her art work, put some of her students classwork and art work inside their floders to take home and also made portfolios for the children.  Then they went and did their normal things that they do every single day.  They would do their activity work sheets, read outloud, and did group activities towards the end.  But they got to watch a movie today which was very interesting.  Overral it was a good day.  My goal was to make sure that i still wanted to continue this career when i get older and to also do not use baby talk when talking to the students because it will help them be treated as if they were teens.  

Mentor Logs

    On January 9, I was with the kids and my mentor for 5 hours. What we do is usually the same thing. I watch Mrs. Fellner tell her students what they are about to do,the kids have to go to their tables and read silently for a while, while another group goes to the jelly bean table and read out loud with Mrs. Fellner, then the kids go on the rug and have the student of the day do some activities with the whole class, then they go to the library again, after the library the read the books for a little while and go back to the rug, then they have to do some math and reading assignments and then there is recess then there is more math problems the students have to do at their table, then there is lunch and when the kids come back from lunch they had to listen to Mrs. Fellner read to the students and they had to do more assignments and then they get to have free play for about 30 mins and have to clean their mess and that's basically happens ever day.
    On January 22, I was there for only 1 hour.  It was basically the same thing as the 9th but this time they had a lock down drill.  What I had to do was lock  the door so no trespassers would come onto the campus and then lay on the floor with the kids away from the windows so no one can see us.  Other than that, Mrs. Fellner says good morning to the students,  then read silently and so on, basically the same thing as every other day.
    On February 6, I was there for another hour and its the same thing as usual nothing different.  Mrs. Fellner says good morning to the students, then the students read silently and so on.
    On February 19 Mrs. Fellner gave me something to take home and that took me about an hour to do.  What I did was, I had to make their journals so I had to get the cover and the back page(which is yellow)and get the part that the students are writing on and staple them together and that is how you make their journals.
    On February 20, I was there for seven hours.  It is the same as every other day but the students get out early since it was early release, but the kindergarten students always get out at 1:30.  So I stayed in until 3:30 and stayed to help Mrs. Fellner take down some new decorations and put on new ones.  Then I had to stop because I went into a meeting with her and the other kindergarten students.  The teachers talked about what is going on like report cards, field trips and how their students are doing on and how far the teachers are on the standards.  Then when the meeting was finished I went back to helping her put on the new decor.
    On March 9, I was working to help out on the Monte Verde Crab Feed.  I was there for 4 hours and 20 mins.  What I did was working at table 7 and sure that the people who were eating the crab got what they needed, like enough food and made sure everything was to their satisfactory.  That is basically what i did to help out Monte Verde.

1984

   In the book 1984 Oceania there is a telescreen that watches peoples every move.  "The instrument(the telescreen, it was called)could be dimmed, but there is no way of shutting it off completely"(p.6).  The atmosphere of the whole area is not very warming it feels cold and depressing. There is a party called the INGSOC in Oceania.  The leader of INGSOC is a man the called BIG BROTHER.  In Oceania there are many different Ministries.  "The Ministry of Truth, which concerned itself with news, entertainment, education, and the fine arts; the Ministry of Peace, which concerned itself with war; the Ministry of Love, which maintained law and order; and the Ministry of Plenty, which was responsible for economic affairs"(p.8).  The mini names for each Ministry are Miniture, Minipax, Miniluv, and Miniplenty. "The Minitry of Love was the really frightening one"(p.8). There is a sign in Oceania that says WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY,  IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.  In Oceania there is also another party that is against INGSOC and the leader of that party is Goldstein and there are words that say DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER many times.  These to parties are against each other and Goldstein went again BIG BROTHER.  Winston also writes in his diary talking about whats going on and how Oceania is.  This is what happens in Oceania.

stranger than fiction

   To be an author you have to tell your audiance/readers what is going on in the story like the plot.  You also have to make sure you give your audience/readers enough information about the chacters in each novel.  A narrator is when the person is speaking out loud to an audiance of what the author wrote in the book, movie, etc.  The narrator does not write the story it is the authors job. For example the narrator does not write what the chacter is doing because the author already wrote that in his or her novel, movie, etc. In my opinion that is what the difference between the author and narrator is.  In my paper i believe that the audiance will truely see how the budget cuts are effecting districts, schools, teachers, and finally students and how the teachers will not be able to get all the material the teachers needs  to maje their students learning experience fun and effective.  I included one of my mentors perspective of how the budget cuts are effecting her personally and it seems to be effecting her not alot but it seems difficult and how the school does not have certain activities for their students. This is how i feel when i wrote my research paper.

On January 9, 2013 Ms. Fellner was showing me her lesson plan so i knew what we were going to do on that day. The first thing we did was get the children settled in their seats and she started to introduce me to everyone while she eas takin role.  Next they went onto the rug and was telling the kids what they were going to learn on that day.  The first activity we did as a class was reading. in a small group they would have reading time for them selves for about an hour.  The next thing she did was she read some cards to the class an would make the kids tell them what they see in the picture. We also worked on some math problems.  The children have recess for about 30mins to an hour I believe.  Also towards the end of the day the children would have play time on their own and also they would have clean up time.  I learned that the children are mor then just cute, each child has a diffrent personality and that a teacher doesnt always have it the easy way and that a teacher has alot in their hands.
